Fresh cut flowers aren’t meant to last forever, in fact some of the most loved floral varieties only have a vase life of a few days while others will last weeks. No matter the bloom, here are some expert tips for taking the best care of your flowers.

Snip Snip
If you’ve received flowers that are not in a vase it’s important to give them a fresh cut. When flowers are out of water for a bit the stems seal up to retain moisture. A fresh cut benefits the bloom by enabling adequate water absorption.
Clean Water
Keeping the water fresh is the key to long lasting flowers. This means changing the water every day or so. Murky water not only looks gross but indicates there is bacteria in the water that is shortening the life of the flowers.
Keep it Cool
You don’t need to have a floral refrigerator to enjoy fresh flowers but do be mindful of where you place your arrangement. Placing flowers next to a heater or radiator will dry them out and the high temperatures could cause them to wilt quickly.
Not Too Cold
Flowers like it cool but not too cool. If it’s below 35 degrees you might have found that your arrangement arrived wrapped in plastic. We hate how it looks but this little wind breaker is a layer of protection that is necessary for delivering flowers in the winter. Without that protection the flowers could turn brown or freeze - even if they’ve only had a few minutes outside.
No Direct Sunlight
Once flowers are cut they no longer need the sun, in fact the sun can shorten their life! Having a garden party & want flowers on your table? Go for it. Just know that your flowers may not look the best the next day. Keeping them inside & out of direct sunlight will lengthen the life of your cut flowers.
